Director, Center for Innovation in Ship Design (CISD) Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (Code 8202)
Michael Bosworth is the Director of the Center for
Innovation in Ship Design (CISD) in code 82.
A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Mr. Bosworth served for twenty
years as a naval officer, both as a Surface Warfare Officer and an Engineering
Duty Officer, serving afloat in an LST, FFGs, DDGs and a CV, and ashore at
Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, NSWC Carderock, NAVSEA, graduate school at MIT,
and the CNO's staff (Surface Warfare), in operational, maintenance, design,
R&D and strategic planning positions.
He retired from uniform in 1996.
After six years in industry (Syntek Technologies of Ballston VA), he
returned in 2001 to the Navy as a civilian senior naval architect and program
manager in the Ship Concepts and Design Group in NAVSEA (SEA 05D), rebuilding
and restructuring the Naval Advanced Concept and Technologies (NACT)
program. He then fleeted up in 2007 to
division director of the Ship & Force Architecture Concepts Division (SEA
05D1). In 2009 SEA 05D transferred the
Technology Transition branch (now a division) to the newly formed SEA 05
Technology Office under the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Mr. Bosworth was
assigned as Technical Director, which in April 2010 became a group (05T) and
Mr. Bosworth its deputy director and sometimes acting director/CTO. In 2014 Mr. Bosworth became the Science and
Technology Director for PEO LCS (now Unmanned and Small Combatants, USC), and
in June 2018 he transferred to NSWC Carderock for his present duties as CISD
Mr. Bosworth and his wife Barbara have three grown
children, and live in Vienna Virginia.
